This committee provides a forum for researchers operating clinical brain donor programs associated with the NSW Brain Bank. The NSW Brain Banks collect and hold the tissue donated for research purposes from the brain donors enrolled in these brain donor programs.
The brain donor research programs are essential for the recruitment of carefully characterised people who consent to brain donation after death for research purposes. The committee reviews standardisation and best practice for recruitment strategies, longitudinal data collection and data storage to maximise the research outcomes on the tissue collected by the NSW Brain Banks. The committee provides a forum to disseminate information concerning changes in policy and ethical practice around brain donation, as well as to discuss any issues associated with these longitudinal programs, including funding support.
Applications from individuals who wish to establish their own NSW Brain Banks brain donor program are welcomed.
